Canvas Course Co-Design

Wednesday, September 28, 2022, On-Demand

This presentation will describe the ‘Canvas Course Co-Design’ project established to address student concerns relating to inconsistent layout across courses in Canvas. The aim of the project was to improve the user experience for all students. A Group of key stakeholders was established to develop a framework which instructors could use to ensure a “Student first” approach to course development.
To better understand business requirements and user needs, user research activities were conducted in March 2022 to establish what students really want when accessing their Canvas course materials online and how we could do better in terms of making content easily discoverable and usable.Deliverables of the project include;

  • 8x VLE Minimum Standards co designed by students
  • 3x example courses which are a good take on the Minimum Standards
  • a new suite of VLE Templates which can be accessed by instructors via Canvas Commons
  • a ‘Canvas Course Design Toolkit’ which offers a simple framework for applying the minimum standards to new and existing courses in Canvas.

If you would like to understand the various activities involved in co designing an enhanced student user experience for your institutional VLE, then don’t miss this session!
